The Power Team

The Power Team is a group of Christian Evangelists, based in Dallas, Texas, who incorporate their preaching with displays of strength and martial arts skills. They were founded in the late 1970s by John Jacobs. Their performances, usually taped at large megachurches, were broadcast on TBN and other Christian television stations in the United States in the late 1980s. Their current president is Todd Keene.

The Power Team often conducts performances in venues such as schools, to encourage audiences from outside church communities. As performances in public schools cannot discuss religion, these performances instead promote social responsibility and abstention from drugs and alcohol. The group’s promotional material indicate that they present a “message that strengthens and restores the family.”

Their stated mission: “To reach people of all ages, who would typically not ever attend an event in a church setting, with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Drawing people from all walks of life together into one setting, through the use of performing visually explosive feats of strength, by incredible athletes, who share the life-changing message of the cross.”
The Power Team ranks second only to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in number of salvations over the past 25 years.

The Power Team has been endorsed by and/or featured in many well known institutions:
•” Walker, Texas Ranger” with Chuck Norris
•ABC, NBC, CBS Sports, CNN News
•WB Network, ESPN
•ET (Entertainment Tonight)
•People Magazine
•USA Today
•Saturday Evening Post
•Ripley’s Believe It or Not
•Endorsements by over 100 Governors, Senators, & Congressmen
•40 countries around the world/50 Denominations
•Over 25,000 school assemblies
This wide appeal of the team makes it easy for any church member to convince friends, co-workers, neighbors, and loved-ones to come to a “church event” they would not typically attend. You will see between 500-10,000 respond to the messages, with between 50% of responders being over the age of 21.
